Fylde Micro and Icom Inc. dPMR® Mode 3 System Products
Blackpool, England/Osaka, Japan – September 16, 2011 - Fylde Micro Ltd (Blackpool, England) and
Icom Incorporated (Osaka, Japan) officially announce the Mode 3 dPMR® equipment.
This partnership was announced in January of this year, and the results of the development have progressed to the point where the first stage dPMR® Mode 3 products are nearing completion.
These components consist of:
Fylde Micro’s 4th generation controller MultiLingo™, and Icom Inc.’s dPMR® Mode 3 capable IDAS™ series terminals and repeaters.
Fylde and Icom will be showing a prototype level system at the upcoming PMR Summit in Barcelona, Spain on September 20th and 21st, 2011. The combined product suite is the first one based on the open ETSI TS 102 658 Tier 2 Mode 3 dPMR® standards, and will currently be the first trunking and networking capable system to be based on ETSI digital two-way radio standards outside of Tetra.
The initial system capability will be a high quality trunked and networked radio system ranging in size from a single site up to 16 site multi-site trunking operation. Further enhancements planned for 2012 will see the system scope expand to an unlimited number of sites (a theoretical maximum of up to 1000 sites/500,000 subscribers) with telephone interconnect and other features.
The Fylde and Icom solution will also be unique in the fact that it will offer an immediate migration path from MPT to dPMR® without the requirement of any MPT operation in the IDAS™ terminals. The MultiLingo™ controller will have the capability to encode/decode analogue MPT signals to and from digital dPMR® signals and vice versa. This provides the advantage of not requiring a parallel infrastructure set up to allow an MPT and the dPMR® digital system to work together.

dPMR® is digital radio protocol specifically targeting highly functional solutions by using low cost and low complexity technology. dPMR is a narrowband (6.25 kHz) FDMA technology that is 100% digital that offers many forms of voice and/or data applications.
dPMR® exists in a range of functional levels. Tier 1 dPMR446 license-free, Tier 2, Mode 1 licensed peer to peer, Mode 2 base station and repeater use and Mode 3 multi-site wide area networked systems.
The FDMA protocol specified in both TS102 490 and TS102 658 ETSI standards complies with the European Harmonised Standard EN301 166-2 for use in 6.25 kHz channels.
